學校歷史
奧本大學由南衛(wèi)理公會教宗創(chuàng)立，是一所私立教會學校，但現(xiàn)在已于教會沒有任何關(guān)系。學校經(jīng)歷了多次改名：校名初為“東阿拉巴馬男子學院（East Alabama Male College）”，1872年依據(jù)莫里爾法案，接受了聯(lián)邦贈地，更名為“阿拉巴馬農(nóng)工大學（Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama）”，主要專注于文科與農(nóng)學（Arts & Agriculture）；1899年，受時任校長布龍博士農(nóng)工文理并重的思想影響，學校更名為“阿拉巴馬理工學校（Alabama Polytechnic Institute ）”；隨著學校課程及專業(yè)門類的增多，上世紀60年代，學校更名為現(xiàn)今的“奧本大學”，以適應(yīng)學校已經(jīng)成為一所綜合性大學的現(xiàn)實。
校園環(huán)境
奧本大學校園占地面積1843英畝（約7.45平方公里），學校內(nèi)建筑呈網(wǎng)格線分布，院系分布十分明顯——校園北部是大部分工程學院的樓房所在地、法學院、學校古老的行政管理大樓也在這里；校園中部是文理學院（美術(shù)系除外）、教育學院的所在地；校園南部則是理學院大本營，美術(shù)系也位于這里。

奧本大學蒙哥馬利分校（Auburn University at Montgomery ，縮寫AUM）原屬奧本大學的一所分校，成立于1967年，位于阿拉巴馬最大城市蒙哥馬利市郊區(qū)。學校全日制學生只有5000多人，另有1萬多的成教學生。自2007年起，這所分校開始以“Auburn Montgomery”的名號力推自己的牌子。這所學校的實力遠遜奧本大學本部，請注意區(qū)分。

奧本大學的建筑、藥學、獸醫(yī)科學、工程、林學、商科都非常強，優(yōu)異建筑學最為強勢。。按照美國建筑學雜志“設(shè)計智慧（DesignIntelligence）”出版的2013年的美國最佳建筑與設(shè)計學院排名，奧本大學的工業(yè)設(shè)計、室內(nèi)設(shè)計、景觀設(shè)計以及本科的建筑學專業(yè)都排名全美前十，其中室內(nèi)設(shè)計更是排名美國第一。

奧本大學研究生院不向國際學生提供任何獎學金。因此，該校的獎學金只能由學生所申請的系所或項目組里提供，其形式仍然有TA、RA和Fellowship為主。學生在申請時應(yīng)主動與系里的導(dǎo)師或招生辦聯(lián)系，以期獲得由導(dǎo)師或系里提供的RA、TA獎學金。該校獎學金形式均為Merit-based，無需單獨申請，自動隨Offer發(fā)放。一般而言，PhD學生的獲獎幾率要遠遠大于碩士學生獲得的幾率。
該校的TA和RA獎學金可以讓國際學生只需繳納與阿拉巴馬州內(nèi)學生同等的學費費率，此外，還可以獲得一個按月發(fā)放的生活補助。另需要注意的是，該校TA獎學金要求國際學生的TOEFL口語不得低于23分。
